About this studio
Dancelot has been leading ballroom and Latin American dance in Johannesburg since 1975. Founded by Brian Schmidt and Meryl Williams—seven-time undefeated professional dance champions with nine world representations—the studio has built a reputation for excellence across multiple locations: Bedfordview, Kensington, and Eastgate.
You can train in Ballroom and Latin American styles through group classes, private lessons, or wedding-specific choreography. The studio caters to all levels, from complete beginners to dancers preparing for competition. Group classes run Monday and Thursday and cover Jive, Foxtrot, Boogie, Waltz, Cha Cha Cha, and Line Dancing. No partner is required for group classes, and you can start anytime—there are no contracts.
Private lessons are structured to individual needs and taught by internationally qualified teachers specializing in Associate and Licentiate Ballroom and Latin American styles. Whether you're aiming for competition or social dancing, private instruction covers technique, musicality, dance vocabulary, partnering skills, and personalized choreography at your own pace.
Wedding packages include choreography for bride and groom first dances, father-daughter dances, mother-son dances, line dances for bridesmaids and groomsmen, and group classes for family and friends. The studio also hosts monthly social dance events.
Dancelot operates across three Johannesburg locations and maintains associations with the Republic Dance Teachers Association, South African Dance Foundation, World Dance Council, Amateur League, and International Dance Organisation. The studio is open Monday to Friday 8am–10pm, Saturdays 8am–8pm, and Sundays 8am–5pm.
