About this studio

Ecco Dance School has been running since 1992, when Amanda Horne founded it in a church hall in Ecclesfield with classes in ballet, tap and freestyle. The school moved to Burton Street in 1995, then to The Nichols Building at Shalesmoor in 2012, and most recently to 122 Scotland Street in July 2018.

The studio teaches a wide range of styles across all ages. For the youngest students, there's pre-school dance for ages 2–4, mixing theatre dance, freestyle and party dances. From age 3 onwards, children can take ballet, tap, street dance, freestyle and theatre dance classes. Acro classes start at age 4, and performing arts (which covers dance, drama and singing) from age 5. Contemporary dance begins at age 6. Adult tap classes are also available. All staff are IDTA qualified and DBS checked.

Ecco is known for training competitive dancers. The school has produced many Freestyle, Slow, Rock n Roll and Street Dance champions and has had students nominated for IDTA Freestyle Scholarships. There's a pre-competition class open to students in the Freestyle/Street programme who want to prepare for ADFP Freestyle competitions, with progression to the full competition crew. Students can take IDTA examinations and Performing Arts examinations, and all pupils perform in bi-annual dance shows, with performing arts students in an annual show as well.

Many Ecco students have gone on to professional theatre work, appearing in productions at the Sheffield Lyceum, Sheffield Crucible, Rotherham Civic Theatre, and venues across Chesterfield, Doncaster and surrounding areas. Several have auditioned successfully into prestigious training institutions including Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts, Midlands Academy of Dance and Drama, Northern School of Contemporary Dance, Bird College and Performers College. Past students have also progressed to careers in dance and theatre, and Amanda has trained many of the teachers now on her own team.

You can attend as many different classes as you like during the week. The studio also offers studio hire starting from £15 an hour for external individuals and groups.
