Emily Coles is a competitive dancer with an extensive performance record: United States Women's Same-Sex International Standard Champion (2013, 2019), North American Women's Same-Sex International Standard Champion (2012, 2017, 2019), North American Women's Same-Sex International Latin Champion (2012, 2019), World Champion Women's Same-Sex Smooth (2014), and World Women's International Standard Finalist (2018).
The studio teaches a wide variety of styles including swing, salsa, cha-cha, samba, waltz, tango and foxtrot. Emily began dancing at age 5 and spent 20 years performing across stages from Pennsylvania to San Francisco, exploring modern, jazz, tap, improv, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian Samba and American Tribal Bellydance before finding her focus in salsa and ballroom.
Private lessons are offered at $100–$150 per hour on a sliding scale. Emily works with students of all backgrounds and has particular experience supporting people with health-related challenges, including chronic conditions, brain injuries and social anxiety. She brings what she describes as humour, patience, kindness and compassion to every lesson.
The studio also offers wedding dance preparation, ranging from simple, low-stress choreography to full routines designed to impress guests. Emily is listed on The Knot and has testimonials and photos from past wedding clients available on the website. Beyond private lessons, Emily is available for special events: birthday parties, wedding receptions and other occasions at $200 per hour plus travel, or corporate team-building at $300 per hour plus travel.
The studio is located at 136 Missouri Street at 17th Street in Potrero Hill. A 24-hour cancellation policy applies; lessons cancelled or missed without notice incur a $75 charge.
