About this studio
Fred Astaire Dance Studios in South Tampa teaches International and American Ballroom styles, with instruction in Argentine Tango, Bolero, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing, Foxtrot, Hustle, Jive, Mambo, Merengue, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Salsa, Samba, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Waltz, and West Coast Swing. The studio is located at 3415 W Bay to Bay Boulevard, less than half a mile from the Ritz-Carlton Residencies Tampa and across the street from Cookie Dough Bliss Tampa.
The teaching method combines Private Lessons, Group Lessons and Practice Parties, designed so you learn as much as possible in the shortest time with the most retention. The studio emphasises that you'll be on your way to confident dancing by the end of your first lesson. New students can take a 40-minute introductory lesson that introduces basic steps of common social dances including waltz, foxtrot, rumba, push-pull, and salsa.
The South Tampa team includes Owner/Instructors Ronald Guillen and Katie Guillen, Manager/Instructor Erick Guillen (originally from Peru, who brought his passion for dance to Florida in 2016), Professional Dance Instructor Artur (a ballroom dance champion who started at age six), Professional Instructor Katarina Tate (originally from Belgrade, Serbia, who began dancing at age 8), and Front Desk Executive Sydney Farooq, a Tampa Bay native. All instructors are certified in the Fred Astaire Dance Curriculum, many have Fine Arts degrees, and many are actively competing award-winning professional dancers who hail from all over the world.
The studio runs Guest Parties, Showcases, Spotlights, Community Outreach Events and special Coaching Sessions. For competitive dancers, Fred Astaire offers Regional, Inter-Regional, National and International Pro-Am and Professional Dance Competitions, including the Newcomers' Spotlight (Tuesday 8 June 2025, 7:30 PM), Remix & Rewind Showcase (Saturday 13 September 2025, 7:00 PM), Emerald Coast Dance Championships (December 4–6, 2025 at Sandestin Hilton), and Central Dance Challenge (August 7–9, 2025 at Ritz Carlton, Sarasota).
Wedding dance programmes are customised and can range from a simple First Dance to fully choreographed routines for the entire wedding party. The studio recommends starting lessons at least 5–6 months before the wedding, though they can accommodate shorter timelines. Father/Daughter and Mother/Son dances are also offered. The studio is located 5 miles from Tampa International Airport.
What to expect
Your first visit
Your 40-minute introductory lesson introduces basic steps of common social dances including waltz, foxtrot, rumba, push-pull, and salsa. You can come alone or with a partner. The studio describes a warm, welcoming and non-judgmental community, and at the end of your lesson the instructors will recommend packages suited to your needs.
