About this studio
Fred Astaire Dance Studios – Winter Park teaches ballroom and Latin partner dances at 1400 Howell Branch Road, about 20 minutes from Orlando. The studio is run by owners Igor Puzhevich and Tetyana Makarenko, with co-owner and manager Valerii Golubev. The team also includes instructors Anastasiia Sukmanova, Alex Yuriev, Viktoriia Yurieva, and Michaela McTague.
The studio covers a wide range of styles: Argentine Tango, Bolero, Cha Cha, East Coast Swing, Foxtrot, Hustle, Jive, Mambo, Merengue, Paso Doble, Quickstep, Rumba, Salsa, Samba, Tango, Viennese Waltz, Waltz, and West Coast Swing. You can learn both International and American Ballroom styles, or both together.
The teaching method combines private lessons, group lessons, and practice parties. The studio uses the Fred Astaire curriculum, developed by Fred Astaire himself, which the site describes as "the building blocks of partner dance in the way that people naturally learn." Instructors are certified in this system and many hold Fine Arts degrees; several are actively competing, award-winning professional dancers who hail from all over the world.
Wedding dance instruction is a major focus. The studio offers everything from simple first-dance steps to fully choreographed routines for the entire wedding party, and can also teach father–daughter and mother–son dances. They recommend starting lessons at least a month before the ceremony, or further in advance for more involved routines.
Beyond social dancing, the studio offers competitive training through Regional, Inter-Regional, National, and International Pro-Am and professional competitions. The studio runs guest parties, showcases, spotlights, community outreach events, coaching sessions, and off-site group outings to help students apply what they are learning in a casual group setting.
