About this studio

Greater Phoenix Swing Dance Club was founded in 1981 and operates as a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to the preservation, perfection, progress and promotion of West Coast Swing dancing. The club runs weekly dances and workshops taught by high-level All-Star or Champion dancers.

The club hosts its regular 1st Sunday dances at NRG Ballroom in Tempe. Recent events have featured DJ Christopher Bacon. The club also organises the Phoenix 4th of July event (July 2–5), a major annual festival with workshops and intensives led by notable instructors including Robert Royston, Glenn Ball, PJ Turner and Benji Schwimmer. The 2026 event will feature a "Dancing in Paradise" theme on Saturday night, and attendees are encouraged to dress in red, white and blue or appropriate themed attire.

West Coast Swing is a partner dance with roots in Lindy Hop, danced primarily in a slot, allowing both partners to improvise steps while dancing together. The club also teaches East Coast Swing and Lindy Hop.

Membership costs $25 for half a year and offers discounted entry to club dances and special workshops, free entry to one weekly dance during your birthday month, priority seating at the club table at Phoenix 4th of July, and reciprocal member status with other clubs nationwide. The club maintains an active social presence with a weekly e-blast, Facebook group and Instagram account (@gpsdcwcs). The club's three founding principles are simple: have fun, make new friends, and dance with everyone.
