About this studio
Iris Rosa Dance Studio opened in May 2022 as a space for the Indianapolis community to experience multiple dance forms in one inclusive environment. Founded by Iris Rosa, a Studio Owner and Indiana University Professor Emerita, the studio welcomes curious dancers to explore Modern, Afro Cuban, Jazz, Salsa, Ballet, African dance traditions, and more. The mission is deliberate: to cross-pollinate dance communities and populations, expanding your understanding of dance, history, and culture to become a holistic, informed dancer.
The studio houses Seda Negra/Black Silk Dance Company, a performing ensemble that uses a fusion of dance genres to tell stories and explore political, social, and cultural narratives of people in the African Diaspora. The company comprises dancers representing diverse backgrounds and professions, and shares its artistry with the Indianapolis community and beyond through performances and workshops.
Currently, the studio offers beginner-focused classes open to adults. Salsa for Adult Beginners runs Wednesdays at 6:30–7:30pm, taught by Kiara Rodríguez Nuñez and drawing on influences in Son Cubano, Rumba, and other Latin rhythms. Tap for Adult Beginners takes place Sundays at 11:30am–12:30pm with instructor Cherese Dillman, teaching the basics in a fun and welcoming setting. Iris Rosa herself teaches Jazz and Contemporary for Experienced Movers. The studio also offers dance workshops and intensives, and is available for rental for dance instruction and rehearsals.
Attendance is flexible: buy a 10 Class Punch Card and save £20, or a 5 Class Punch Card and save £10. No advance sign-up required—simply bring your card to any class you wish to attend.

Your first visit
Drop in to a beginner class—either Salsa on Wednesday evenings or Tap on Sunday mornings—with your punch card. The space welcomes you to learn technique and enjoy the joy of dance alongside other curious movers in the community.

Iris Rosa, the studio founder and Indiana University Professor Emerita, teaches Jazz and Contemporary for Experienced Movers. Cherese Dillman teaches Tap for Adult Beginners and serves as Assistant to the Director of Seda Negra/Black Silk Dance Company. Kiara Rodríguez Nuñez teaches Salsa for Beginners and is a dancer with the company.
