About this studio
Kinetic Dance Studio is located at 18/20 Lorne Street in Auckland CBD, with a satellite studio at Flow Academy of Motion in Albany. The studio offers classes across a wide range of street and contemporary styles taught by experienced instructors. Classes span hip hop, K-pop, house, funk, heels, waacking, krumping, locking, and choreography, with both adult and kids programmes available.
Adult classes are structured by difficulty level, ranging from beginner to advanced. The studio runs a two-level system to help you find classes that match your experience. K-pop classes focus on learning choreography from K-pop artists, covering styles including hip-hop, jazz, and contemporary. Hip hop classes draw on the style's roots in 1970s New York City, emphasizing bounces, rocks, skates, and rolls. House dance, which originated in Chicago in the 1980s, features unique footwork and body isolations. Funk blends disco and soul with fluid and sharp moves, while heels classes emphasize feminine choreography. Waacking is characterised by arm movements and posing with strong musicality, krumping by free and exaggerated energy with body part isolation, and locking by fast movements with freezing positions—a style developed in Los Angeles in the late 1960s. Choreography classes vary by teacher and creative choice, making each unique.
Kinetic Kids is a high-energy dance programme for ages up to 14, running K-pop classes in the CBD. Classes build rhythm, confidence, and teamwork through choreography inspired by K-pop and global dance styles. No experience is needed; beginners and returning students are both welcomed. Kids classes are one hour long with opportunities for video projects, showcases, and performances. All songs and choreography are reviewed to ensure age-appropriate, positive, and fun content.
The studio books classes via the Mindbody app. Adult drop-in classes are $22; trial offers include two classes for $25 (two-week expiry) or single classes at discounted tertiary student rates of $17 (4-pass available for $68). Multi-passes offer flexibility with 1-year expiry: a 2-pass at $40, a 4-pass at $76, or a Gold 10-pass at $170 (includes $30 off a JF Physio session, 5% off showcases and merchandise, and exclusive Kinetic Club offers). Kids trial is $15; drop-in classes $22; 2-class and 4-class packs (expiring after one term) at $40 and $76 respectively; 10-class packs (expiring after two terms) at $170, or $320 for a sibling pack.
Kinetic also functions as a venue for hire. Four studios are available: Studio 1 (20–30 people) with 3 air conditioning units, Bluetooth speakers, full-length mirrors, and spotlights/LEDs/dimmable lighting; Studio 2 (20–25 people) with 1 air conditioner, Bluetooth speakers, full-length mirrors, and coloured LEDs/dimmable lighting; Studio 3 (15 people) with 1 air conditioner, Bluetooth speakers, full-length mirrors, and coloured LEDs/dimmable lighting; and Studio 4 (40–50 people), which combines Studios 2 and 3. Studio 1 includes a fully functional licensed bar (open 12pm to 2am daily), ideal for parties and functions. Rehearsal booking is for casual, self-directed practice; commercial booking covers classes, group training, filming, and performance preparation. Peak rates apply Monday–Friday 5pm–10pm and Saturday–Sunday 5pm–12am (or Monday–Sunday 5pm–10pm for Studios 2, 3, and 4). Off-peak and rehearsal rates apply at all other times. Event hire and large workshop pricing is available on request.
Classes may be filmed if time allows at the end; filming is optional. Videos are sent via Dropbox and/or uploaded to the community YouTube channel. The studio welcomes all ages, backgrounds, and skill levels. You can cancel or change classes with 24 hours' notice and transfer your pass credit to another time. Bathrooms are available for changing before or after class.
