About this studio
Lineage Dance Co. is a dance studio in Columbus, Ohio, founded by Melissa McGhee. The studio opened in 2021 and is currently in its fifth season of operation. McGhee, originally from Toledo, Ohio, has lived in the Columbus area for over fifteen years. She created the studio with a mission to provide "a dance studio community with quality instruction and an inclusive, team oriented environment that develops well-rounded dancers and people."
The studio serves children and young dancers from ages 2.5 to 15. Lineage Littles is the pre-school dance programme for ages 2.5–5, introducing young dancers to multiple styles through combo classes designed to expose them to ballet, tap, jazz, and acro. Studio classes serve grades 1–9 with both Dance Mix classes (exploring two styles in one class) and single-style classes that dive deeper into technique.
The team includes head instructors Kristina Sweazy (ballet), Lauren Burns, Lindsay Shearer, Sarah Trace, and Maddie Smith, along with studio director Melissa McGhee and assistant director Katie Devine. Josie Cahall directs Lineage Littles and Studio Classes as well as the Extend & Performance Collective. The studio values team-first culture, integrity, clear communication, energised instruction, and quality professionalism.
All studio classes participate in the annual spring show. Beyond regular classes, the studio offers The Collective: Team Program for competitive training, mini training sessions (private and semi-private lessons) available for ages 5 and up, birthday parties, summer camps, summer classes, and flexible mini-session options. Summer offerings run June 1–July 31st and include combo levels and dance mix classes with acro, ballet, jazz, hip hop, and pom options.

Lineage Dance Co. was founded in 2021 by Melissa McGhee, who spent her formative years dancing at multiple studios and credits those experiences with teaching her discipline, hard work, and resilience. McGhee created the studio to offer young dancers the same community and team-oriented experience she had growing up, combined with her passion for building inclusive dance teams.
