About this studio
Michael and Amy teach West Coast Swing at two Vancouver locations: Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral on Wednesdays and Famee Furlane Hall on Tuesdays. Their story began when they met at a West Coast Swing dance, became practice partners, fell in love, and got married. Now they share that passion by making it easy and fun for others to learn.
West Coast Swing is a versatile partner dance suited to parties, weddings and nightclubs. It works with a wide variety of music—Top 40, Hip Hop, Jazz, Blues, and Country. Michael and Amy emphasize connection, musicality, and creativity alongside the fundamentals.
Classes run for 12 weeks at $180 per session. Each evening has two levels back-to-back: Fundamentals (6:45–7:40 pm) followed by Beyond Fundamentals (7:50–8:45 pm), with a 10-minute break to practise and mingle. Fundamentals is an introduction to core concepts and techniques; no previous experience necessary. Beyond Fundamentals builds on those foundations with variations, styling and musicality concepts, tailored to each session's students. Class sizes are limited and pre-registration is required; no drop-ins are accepted. A 50% discount applies if you repeat Fundamentals.
Private lessons are available at various times, and Michael and Amy offer wedding choreography. They also occasionally offer a one-on-one class (currently unavailable) that pairs technique instruction with personalised feedback while you dance with them. You don't need a partner to join—the studio rotates partners so you dance with different people and become part of a broader dance community. You should be able to miss a class and still progress, as each session reviews the previous week's material.
