NottIngham Theatre Dance School

Nottingham Theatre Dance School has been running for over 25 years, building a reputation for quality dance training in a caring and supportive environment. The school is located on the first floor of Carlton Square Shopping Centre in Carlton, and welcomes students aged 2.5 to 18 years.

The core of the curriculum centres on three classical subjects: classical ballet, modern dance, and tap. Beyond these, the school also offers contemporary dance, jazz, acrobatics, and musical theatre. Students can progress through non-syllabus classes or pursue competitive training and examination preparation.

Examinations are held twice yearly at the end of the Summer and Autumn Terms. In recent years, students have achieved strong results—one term alone saw 50 Distinctions and 10 Merits across the examination cohort. The school also produces a bi-annual Showcase performed at The Nottingham Arts Theatre, with all students encouraged to take part.

Preparatory classes for younger dancers develop listening skills, memory, co-ordination and basic motor skills through creative movement, introducing ballet, tap and expressive movement. As students progress, dance encourages a love of music and rhythm, artistic creativity, enhanced social skills, work ethic and confidence.

The school supports pupils with an interest in competitive stage dance festivals across the East Midlands area and has enjoyed considerable success in regional competitions. Teachers are described as highly qualified and professional, dedicated to ensuring each student reaches their own potential.

You'll find a warm and friendly studio environment on the first floor of Carlton Square Shopping Centre. Classes are structured by age and ability, from preparatory movement classes for the youngest students through to examination and competition training for older dancers.

The school welcomes new students from age 2.5, with preparatory classes designed to build confidence and fundamental skills through creative movement.
