Sandip Soparrkar's Ballroom Studio

Sandip Soparrkar's Ballroom Studio is located on the ground floor of St. Andrew's College in Bandra West, Mumbai. The studio was the first in India to send couples to International DanceSport Federation (IDSF) championships in Singapore, Macau, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Hong Kong and the prestigious Indoor Asian Games. Sandip Soparrkar is a German-trained ballroom dance teacher and the first Indian to be certified by the Ballroom Dance Teachers Training School in Bonn, Germany. He was the partner to the former European Ballroom Champion for nine years, and in India his dance partner is supermodel Jesse Randhawa. In 2004, The Queen of England and The Prince of Wales sent personal letters of appreciation to Sandip Soparrkar for promoting ballroom and Latin American dance culture in India.

The studio teaches Rumba, Samba, Cha-Cha-Cha, Waltz, Foxtrot, Jive, Paso Doble, Social Foxtrot, Viennese Waltz, Quickstep, Tango, Salsa and Merengue. Sandip is qualified to teach all Latin American and Standard Ballroom dances to championship level. He stood 4th in the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing, recognised worldwide. Over 10,00,000 students from different walks of life—corporate executives, doctors, students, housewives and film, television and media personalities—have trained at the studio.

The core teaching team includes Swapna Pandit, who holds an MBA in Finance and has worked as studio coordinator since 2011. She is trained in Bollywood dance styles and belly dancing, and is known for accurate technique and step explanation. Ankita Dolawat, a graduate in Economics, is a trained Latin and ballroom dancer who represented India in the Latin Ballroom category at the ElLatino Dance Championship in Sri Lanka in March 2017, winning bronze. She has assisted in choreography for films including Screwdriver and Doctor Rakhmabai, and trained celebrities including Varsha Usgaonkar, Maria Goretti and Tisca Chopra. Anuj Bhargava is a corporate banker and dancer who participated in his first international Latin Championship in Sri Lanka after joining the studio, returning with a bronze medal. He has competed in WDSF Open Latin in Malaysia and the Siamese Cup in Bangkok in 2018.

Classes run Monday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 9:00 PM. The studio also organises social parties for students. Students have reported attending classes for nearly two years and training directly with Sandip Soparrkar himself. The studio has expanded beyond Mumbai with branches in Pune, Surat, Ahmedabad, and internationally in Kathmandu, Nepal (in association with National Campus College, where dance is part of the regular curriculum) and in Edison, New Jersey, USA.

You'll train in a structured ballroom and Latin programme at a studio in central Mumbai. Classes are available throughout the week, and you'll have the option to attend social parties organised by the studio. The teaching covers technique, body posture and hand movements, with progression possible to competitive and championship levels.

Sandip Soparrkar leads the studio, supported by Swapna Pandit (MBA, studio coordinator since 2011, trained in Bollywood and belly dance), Ankita Dolawat (economics graduate, ElLatino Dance Championship bronze medalist from Sri Lanka 2017, film choreography experience) and Anuj Bhargava (corporate banker, international Latin competition participant).

Dance lessons are offered to students from different walks of life, including corporate executives, doctors, students and housewives.
