About this studio

Savannah Ballet School of Dance was founded by Sue Braddy in 1988 and has trained thousands of dancers in ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary dance. The school is part of Savannah Ballet Theatre, a non-profit professional ballet company established in 1998 and recognized as the premiere dance company in Southeast Georgia. Students attend from across southeast Georgia and South Carolina.

Classes run year-round across all ages. Preschool classes (ages 3–4) cover basic ballet technique, rhythmic tap, social skills, dance games, musical exploration, arts appreciation, and creative movement. Elementary students (K–5th grade) progress through technique, pointe shoes, tap, and jazz. Intermediate and advanced classes for grades 6–12 include advanced ballet, intricate pointe work, variation, jazz, and contemporary. Adult beginner/intermediate ballet and yoga classes are also offered.

One of the school's defining strengths is the opportunity for students to perform alongside professional dancers of Savannah Ballet Theatre. With three to four major productions each year, students gain experience performing at a truly artistic level. The company produces classical ballets including Swan Lake, Sleeping Beauty, Giselle, and Peter Pan, alongside original adaptations of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, The Wizard of Oz, The Little Mermaid, Sleepy Hollow, and Jack the Ripper. The annual Nutcracker production, set using WWII-era Savannah as the backdrop, has become a community tradition.

SBSD students regularly gain acceptance into prestigious programs. Recent achievements include admissions to the Garrison School for the Performing Arts and Savannah Arts Academy as Dance Majors, as well as renowned year-round programs such as The Gelsey Kirkland Academy in NYC and the Kirov Academy in Washington, D.C. Several students have earned spots in the Georgia Governor's Honors Program, standing out among 3,000 other dancers in Georgia.
