About this studio
Smooth Rhythm Dance Company in Rocky Hill specializes in youth, teen and adult dancing across a wide range of styles. The studio offers ballet, hip hop, jazz, contemporary, lyrical, acrobatics, heels, ballroom and latin — all taught by Crystal Raptelis, the studio's artistic director and owner, and her staff.
Beyond regular classes, the studio provides private lessons tailored to special occasions including weddings, auditions, Quinceaneras and competition training. Students perform throughout the season at high-calibre venues such as the XL Center (which hosts the Hartford Wolf Pack and Harlem Globetrotters), and the studio also arranges backup dancing opportunities for talented artists and other creative performance opportunities.
The studio's flagship event is the Spring Banquet, an annual celebration that reimagines the traditional end-of-year recital. It takes the form of a sit-down dinner for family and friends, featuring a DJ, awards, and special student performances showcasing what dancers have learned under Crystal's direction and from the staff. The approach emphasizes turning dancers into performers, not just dancers, and the studio welcomes any dancer with the goal of helping them grow into confident young adults.
