About this studio

Step Country Dance Co. was founded in 2021 by Mike and Rich, who together bring over 12 years of experience in country swing dancing, two-step, and line dancing. The studio exists because its founders spent years watching people stand on the sidelines at Nashville dance venues—too intimidated to join. They started pulling shy observers onto the floor, teaching basics, and watching confidence bloom. That philosophy now shapes everything STEP does: classes for beginners, intermediates, and professionals in a welcoming environment designed to be the opposite of an intimidating dance studio.

The instructors are deep practitioners. Mike is a 12+ year seasoned western dance instructor who has trained in Southern California and Nashville, worked privately with hundreds of couples, and taught line dancing at large events with crowds of 500+. Rich picked up authentic Texas Style Two Step while serving in the US Army in Kansas, visited dance halls across Texas and Kansas, and studied further at Kansas State University. Sherry, an instructor with a decade of teaching experience, brings expertise from Northern California and regularly attends workshops and events across the country to learn from top choreographers in the industry.

Classes focus on genuine dances you'll encounter across the country—proper technique from the start so you're learning the real thing, not YouTube choreography. The studio teaches Two Step, Swing, East Coast Swing, West Coast Swing, and Lindy Hop through group classes and private lessons. Bootcamp sessions run for 2 or 4 weeks and are designed for beginner and intermediate couples to dance together like pros; spots are limited.

Beyond weekly classes, STEP hosts private lessons at the studio (located at 2844 Logan St, Nashville, TN 37211) and runs offsite bootcamps and corporate events. The studio also offers bachelorette parties, anniversary celebrations, birthday parties, and other private events—either at their location or at yours. The company is proudly veteran owned and operates on the principle of "experience over expense," pricing classes affordably so dance is accessible to all.
