About this studio
The Dance Academy was founded in 2011 by Reiko M. Cheung as a boutique ballet school in Al Quoz 1. Reiko trained in Japan and at 18 won a prestigious Japanese competition that awarded her a scholarship to study in Paris. She performed as a professional ballerina across the world for more than 20 years before retiring to focus on teaching.
The academy welcomes passionate students from three years old through adulthood. The curriculum embraces traditional ballet principles and incorporates elements of French, Italian and Russian training systems, with emphasis on correct placement, body awareness and healthy movement. Rather than following a single syllabus, the school focuses on building technique and artistry at a pace suited to each student. Classes in repertoire, character and contemporary dance are introduced at appropriate levels.
Your studio experience takes place in spacious rooms flooded with natural light, professionally equipped with fully sprung Harlequin dance flooring, barres and mirrors. Children's classes are capped to ensure teachers can give the individual attention to detail needed to develop each student's ballet technique correctly and safely. Students have the opportunity to participate in solo preparation for competitions, mid-year performance opportunities and the end-of-year theatre performance.
The academy offers group and private coaching. Studios are available for hire and are regularly used by professional dancers, dance companies and various rehearsal events. Contact the academy directly for bookings and rates.
