About this studio
The Lord's School of Dance is a multi-discipline theatre dance school in Sheffield city centre, based at Cuthbert House on Arley Street. Founded in 1993 by Mrs. Lisa Mitchell, who holds four Fellowship teaching degrees with the I.D.T.A (International Dance Teachers Association), the school teaches IDTA theatre dancing lessons including Ballet, Tap, Street Dance, Gymnastics, Musical Theatre, Modern Jazz, Theatre Craft, and Pilates. Classes run from Tots age three upwards through to professional qualifications.
The school takes a confidence-building approach across all abilities. Most classes work towards IDTA examinations and the school's bi-annual show, though students can opt out of exams if they wish. The bi-annual show, usually held in June, gives every student the chance to perform on stage with full costumes, make-up and lighting in a theatre setting. Students regularly audition for stage productions in Sheffield and beyond, and the school has performed as support for the Royal Ballet's production of Manon.
At the end of each school show, two trophies are awarded: the Outstanding Award for consistent excellence over two years, and the Improvement Award for demonstrated month-on-month progress. Students can train up to professional dancing qualifications and teaching degrees in a variety of disciplines, including drama and singing. Musical Theatre classes include specialist singing lessons both group and one-to-one, with teaching that encourages students to work together as a team.
The staff are police checked regularly and many teach in Infant, Primary and Secondary Schools within Sheffield and Rotherham. The school has a strong reputation locally and is frequently invited to perform at public events. Adult classes are available in a range of disciplines and at several standards, including Pilates.
