Wonderfully Made Dance

Wonderfully Made Dance teaches classical ballet to children from age 3 and adults. The studio uses a donation-based tuition model with a recommended monthly contribution of $45, leaving the actual amount to families' discretion. This approach reflects the studio's founding belief that prohibitive costs should not be a barrier to quality ballet training.

Classes run September through May and span multiple levels. For young children, there are Ballet Intro classes at ages 3 and 4, followed by Ballet IA (age 5), Ballet IB (ages 6–7), and Ballet II (age 8+). Intermediate and advanced students progress through Ballet III, Ballet IV, Ballet V, and Pre-Pointe, with placement determined by the director. Pointe work is offered to dancers ready for it. Adult classes start with Adult Beginner for those new to ballet, covering basic technique, balance, alignment, and foot articulation. Adult Intermediate/Advanced offers longer, more complex combinations and extended center work. Saturday mornings feature a Contemporary class alongside Adult Advanced.

The studio emphasises that classical ballet requires tremendous concentration and time to develop proper technique. Advancement depends on attendance, effort, attitude, concentration, and demonstrated improvement in technique and artistry. Teachers work to instil confidence and a love of the art rather than rushing progression. The studio notes it is normal for students to spend more than one school year at a given level.

Kaitlin O'Connell-Owens founded the studio after training classically from age three with Rhode Island State Ballet under Herci Marsden. At age eight she performed The Nutcracker with The Moscow Ballet, and at eleven with The Lexington Ballet. From age twelve she studied at Hess School of Dance under Lone Star Ballet's director Neil Hess, performing annually in The Nutcracker and the outdoor musical Lone Star Rising. She began a BA in Fine Arts in Dance at the University of Hawaii Manoa but changed plans after an injury. Mary Bryan teaches Ballet II and higher levels. She studied at Belhaven University in Jackson, Mississippi, receiving a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a dance endorsement. At Belhaven she trained primarily in the Vaganova method and Martha Graham's technique. She later taught dance for BREC in Baton Rouge and holds certifications in Barre, Water Aerobics, hula hooping, and PIYO, and maintains current ballet technique through regular classes.

The studio provides a Dancer's Closet—a collection of gently used dancewear available free on loan to registered students. Donations support studio maintenance, staff compensation and training, equipment purchase, recital venue fees, and the dancewear loan programme. The studio is located at 5306 Trail Lake Dr, Fort Worth, TX 76133. Classes need a minimum of three students registered to run.

You'll enter a studio focused on technique and discipline where corrections and hands-on help are part of learning. Classes run with clear behavioural expectations: greet the room, keep phones away, no shoes on the marley, and focus on your work. Adult students are not required to wear leotards and tights, though some find they help. Most adult students are either returning to dance after years away or starting completely new.
