Latonya Dillon

Latonya Dillon, known professionally as Latonya Style, is a Jamaican dancehall choreographer, performer, educator, and cultural curator. Her work traces to childhood and became active in Jamaica's dancehall scene by the end of the 1990s, with documented choreography and touring work with dancehall artists beginning in 1999.

A pivotal moment came in 2006, when Style learned that dancehall was being taught at a Russian summer camp without Jamaican leadership. In response, she developed an international-to-Jamaica teaching exchange designed to route cultural interest back to source community practitioners. This initiative became the foundation for Dance Jamaica, a platform supporting both Jamaican dancers' international festival participation and bringing international students to Jamaica for training with local experts.

That work evolved into Dance Jamaica Academy, an institutional umbrella that has expanded Style's reach beyond individual performance. She created Stylish Moves, a licensed movement program for women, and founded the DanceJa Awards to recognize dancehall-dance achievement. Her practice now spans choreography, performance, instruction, event hosting, and curatorial work—a shift reflected in academic and cultural-program invitations positioning her as a teacher of dancehall history and movement.

Style has remained visible across Jamaican popular culture and international dance networks. In 2023, she hosted Jamaica's Red Bull Dance Your Style national final and appeared among the Jamaican dancers in Mýa and Bounty Killer's "Whine" visual project. By 2025, she was curating and hosting Red Ball Dance Your Style in Jamaica, selecting competitors and publicly framing the event as a showcase of both old-school and new-school local innovation. Her career trajectory demonstrates a deliberate movement from individual performance toward cultural stewardship and institutional infrastructure.
