About this studio
Derby City Ballroom is owned and managed by Jani and Viktoria Szukk, world-class competitive dancers with extensive championship credentials. Jani was a World Latin Formation Dance Finalist in Norway 1993 and a 6-times undefeated Hungarian National Latin Champion. Viktoria is a Professional Rising Star and Open Professional American Rhythm Champion, Professional Showdance and American Rhythm Champion at the Greenbrier Resort, Hollywood Dancesport Professional Rising Star American Rhythm Champion, and Pro/Am World Champion. Together they have taught several hundred dancers from across the United States and Europe, with students who have gone on to win the Hungarian National Latin Championship, the American 9 Dance National Championship, the North American Latin Championship, and the World Pro/Am Championship.
The studio teaches ballroom, Latin, social, and wedding dancing, offering lessons in over 20 styles of partner dancing. Their syllabi cover Smooth dances (Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz), Rhythm dances (Cha Cha, Rumba, Swing, Mambo, Bolero), International Ballroom dances (Quickstep, Paso Doble, Samba, Jive), and Club Style Latin dances (Salsa, Bachata, Merengue). The studio specializes in adult beginners and teaches both singles and couples, with one-on-one private lessons, group classes, and regular Practice Dance Parties for students to dance together before heading into social settings.
The teaching method is built on three parts: private dance lessons for personalized attention, group dance classes to learn patterns and lead or follow any partner, and practice. The studio emphasizes a casual, easy-going approach focused on teaching at the student's pace, with no "cookie-cutter" approach to learning. All instructors are extensively trained certified full-time dance professionals required to maintain the highest standards of excellence.
The studio is described as a "dance family" rather than just a studio. It is furnished with modern dance music and sound equipment of the best quality, with beautifully maintained dance studio floors. Morning, afternoon, evening and weekend dance lessons are available. The studio has taught thousands of beginners to become comfortable, confident social dancers.

Your first visit
New students start with the introductory offer: two 30-minute private lessons for $10 each with a professional instructor, who will introduce you to the dances, discuss your goals, and help you plan your path forward. Singles and couples are both welcome.
