About this studio

Arthur Murray Dance Studio Salt Lake City is part of a franchise with over 100 years of history teaching ballroom and Latin dance to everyday people. The studio offers three main programs: Social Dance (Salsa, Swing, Foxtrot and other styles), Wedding Dance for couples preparing first dances, and Competitive Dancing (also called Dancesport), which focuses on Ballroom and Latin with emphasis on technique and style.

Every student begins with a $35 introductory private lesson. The studio teaches from 12–9 pm Monday through Friday, with flexible scheduling designed for busy schedules—you don't need to keep the same time slot from lesson to lesson. The method emphasizes learning fast: students are dancing within five minutes of their first lesson, building on everyday movements that anyone can do. All Arthur Murray students have access to twice-weekly practice parties where they can use their new skills in a social setting.

The studio operates as a franchise under new leadership (as of December 2024) that includes Gary Edwards, a former World 10-Dance Champion and judge of over 60 World Championships. The franchise spans over 300 studios across 22 countries. For wedding couples, the studio offers full choreography and instruction on choosing songs that match your vision—whether you want something subtle and romantic or more elaborate. Parent dances (father-daughter, mother-son) are also available.

The location is convenient off I-15 near the largest Costco in the U.S. Google reviews praise the supportive community, knowledgeable instructors who cater to different learning styles, and memorable events. One reviewer noted they've been with Arthur Murray over 7 years and remain excited to return; another reported taking lessons multiple times a week for seven years with no intention of stopping.

Studio history

Arthur Murray Dance Studios have been operating for over 100 years. Arthur Murray (born Moses Teichman in 1895) began teaching at the Grand Palace ballroom in New York by 1912. In 1920 he pioneered the first 'radio dance,' transmitting live music for home learning. By 1925 he opened his first formal studio in Manhattan. Arthur and his wife Kathryn revolutionized instruction through mail-order lessons using footprint diagrams before opening franchises. The Arthur Murray Party, a television show hosted by Arthur and Kathryn from 1950–1960, brought ballroom dancing into living rooms across America and is credited as groundbreaking for the genre. Arthur Murray passed away in 1991 and Kathryn in 1999. In December 2024, Clarion Capital Partners and Gary Edwards acquired Arthur Murray International Inc.
