About this studio
Austin Uptown Dance teaches country, swing, ballroom and Latin styles to dancers at all levels. You'll find group classes Monday through Thursday evenings, with no partner required — the studio rotates partners during class, though you can stay with your own partner if you prefer. Classes run in four-week progressive sessions starting the first Monday of each month, and typically have 5–20 people. Beginner classes are designed for true beginners: you'll learn the first steps for both leaders and followers.
Private lessons last 40 minutes and can be one-on-one with an instructor or with an instructor and a couple. You can work on multiple dances or focus on one, tailored to your goals. The studio is open Monday 5:30 pm–8:30 pm, Tuesday through Thursday 1:30 pm–8:30 pm, and Friday 1:30 pm–7:45 pm by appointment.
Austin Uptown Dance also hosts regular social events. The space regularly holds Austin Westie Academy nights (Thursday evenings), Echale Salsita workshops (August, September, October, November, December), Connection Tango milengas (monthly Saturday evenings), and Salsamania socials. The studio is available to rent for private events.
Wedding dance packages are a speciality. The studio recommends 6–8 lessons to get comfortable moving together, though special packages range from 3 to 10 lessons. Instructors can help you choose a song, advise on the best dance style, and edit or mix songs to the perfect length for your first dance. You're encouraged to bring the shoes you'll wear on the day so you can practise turning in them.
