About this studio
Ballet Florida is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit in the heart of the Palm Beaches, located at the Community Foundation Building in West Palm Beach. The organisation operates through three main avenues: The Academy of Ballet Florida for student training, The Professional Company for performances, and Community Outreach with scholarship programmes.
The Academy serves students aged 3 and up, with a curriculum spanning from Pre-Primary levels to Pre-Professional training. Beyond classical ballet, the Academy provides specialized training in jazz, tap, modern, and contemporary dance styles. The school emphasises a ballet pedagogical approach, prioritising both technical skill and the health and well-being of students. Admission to the Academy is selective, with placement based on individual development.
Adult open classes welcome dancers of all levels and are available as drop-in sessions or through class packages and monthly unlimited memberships. Adult classes span ballet, jazz, tap, contemporary, and other styles including dance cardio and pilates. Drop-in packages of 5 or 10 classes expire after 90 days, and monthly unlimited memberships require a 6-month commitment.
The faculty includes Artistic Director Lauren Carey, Creative Director Lyndsey Carey, Program Director Alexandra Safran, Rehearsal Director Guy Palmer, Ballet Master for the Adult Division Jason Maison, and instructors Amy Consentino (Academy & Adult Division, Ballet & Contemporary), Erica Borden (Academy & Adult Division, Ballet), Paula Carlyle (Academy & Adult Division, Hip-Hop & Afro-Caribbean), TT'Shaylah Lightbourn (Academy, Jazz & Tap, Adult Division Tap), and Alexandria Buitrago (Academy, Jazz).
The Professional Company creates new works alongside timeless classics, fostering collaboration across various art forms. Programmes range from traditional theater performances to intimate, unconventional settings, with dancers able to audition by email.
Private lessons are available for Academy students looking to deepen their practice, refine technique, or prepare for specific goals. Summer intensives and an Apprentice Ensemble are also offered. Community outreach includes free performances, community classes, educational workshops, and masterclasses for underserved youth.
