About this studio

BalletMet is a professional ballet company and dance academy based in downtown Columbus. Since 1978, the organisation has brought dance to theatres, studios and classrooms across Central Ohio and beyond, reaching over 100,000 audience members annually through performances, touring shows, academy classes and outreach programmes.

The BalletMet Dance Academy ranks among the nation's largest studios associated with a professional company. It offers hundreds of classes each year for students ages 3 to 84, with a curriculum designed for all levels of experience. The academy teaches ballet, tap, modern and lyrical dance, from beginner through to those pursuing professional training. The organisation operates two locations: the main downtown Columbus facility at 322 Mt Vernon Avenue, which houses a black box theatre performance space, seven dance studios, administrative offices and costume and scene shops; and a secondary location at the McConnell Arts Center of Worthington.

The professional company maintains a resident ensemble of soloist-quality dancers performing a repertoire spanning classical to contemporary works. Under Artistic Director Remi Wörtmeyer, the company stages a full season including world premieres, classical ballets and new commissions. Recent productions have included The Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Dracula, Romeo & Juliet and Sleeping Beauty, alongside original work by choreographers including Remi Wörtmeyer, Edwaard Liang, Trey McIntyre and others.

Adult and open drop-in classes cater to casual learners and fitness enthusiasts. These classes span ballet at multiple levels—Introduction to Ballet for absolute beginners, Beginner with previous experience, Beginner/Intermediate, and Intermediate/Advanced—alongside tap, jazz, musical theatre and senior tap. Classes run year-round with separate summer (June through September) and fall/winter schedules. BalletMet is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organisation governed by a board of trustees.
