About this studio
Baltimore Dance Center was founded by Shannon Salemi and has been operating for over 20 years. The studio teaches hip hop, ballet, jazz, tap, breakdancing, lyrical, contemporary, and pointe. Classes are structured around solid technique, building strength and flexibility, and style.
The studio offers several class types. Ballet students focus on classical ballet vocabulary, technique, and proper body alignment. Jazz classes are high-energy sessions to the latest dance music with focus on jazz technique including turns, leaps, and kicks. Tap students learn tap terminology, different rhythm patterns, and ankle strength. Hip hop classes feature MTV commercial style dance to rap and hip hop music. There is also an Intro to Dance class—a one-hour session for younger dancers combining both tap and ballet—and a Boyz Crew class designed specifically for boys ages 10–18, incorporating hip hop and tap technique with performance opportunities.
The studio serves students from across the globe, including from Taiwan, Germany, Italy, and India. Classes and workshops are offered at multiple locations throughout Maryland, Pennsylvania, Washington D.C., and New York, including Towson, Columbia, Owings Mills, and Manhattan.
Beyond regular classes, Baltimore Dance Center offers personal training sessions for dancers and non-dancers, voice and acting coaching by appointment, and hip hop workshops. Recent workshop offerings have included video hip hop dance classes where students create their own dance reels to promote themselves as dancers. The studio maintains a focus on building versatile dancers—youth, pre-professionals, and adults—ready to perform at the highest level.
