The studio grew from the legacy of Fancy Feet Dance Studio, which has served the Matthews and surrounding Charlotte areas under the direction of Ms. Paula Mann for over 32 years. CDA offers classes in ballet, tap, jazz, lyrical, contemporary, pointe, hip hop, floor gymnastics/acro, leadership skills, and improv.
Classes begin at 18 months with Mommy & Me Fun Gym, preschool ballet starting at 2 years, and floor gymnastics/acro beginning at 3 years. Hip hop begins at 3 years with Little Hoppers and runs through adult levels. Teen and adult beginner classes are available in ballet, tap, jazz/lyrical, and hip hop, alongside advanced adult options. Private lessons are also offered. All classes are taught in a non-intimidating, supportive atmosphere designed to help dancers progress from introductory to advanced levels.
CDA operates multiple competitive teams. The Mini Elite Team, for ages 4 and up, specializes in lyrical and jazz funk with Saturday training. The Elite Competition Team includes Petite, Junior, and Senior divisions, with weekly Monday and Wednesday sessions plus Saturday conditioning. The CDA CREW is a competitive hip hop program performing at local charity events, recitals, and regional competitions. Competition teams compete at 4 regional competitions and 1 national competition annually, with an end-of-year recital for all students.
The studio provides free Wi-Fi, charging stations, a homework area, baby changing station for youngest students, and in-class monitors for family viewing. Summer programs include the VIP Elite Summer Experience ($349), VIP Elite Family Summer Experience ($529), CDA Mini Team Prep Program ($179), CDA Hip Hop CREW Training Program ($199), 12-Class Summer Training Pass ($179), 8-Class Summer Training Pass ($139), specialty workshops, and single drop-in classes ($25). Competition team auditions take place during summer workshops and drop-in classes, with placement based on age, maturity, technical ability, commitment level, and growth potential.
CDA emphasizes developing well-rounded individuals with strong technique, life skills, respect for self and others, teamwork, and community service values. The studio serves recreational and competitive dancers alike, with an end-of-year recital and master classes with industry professionals throughout the year.
