About this studio

Dream Dance Academy is led by Sumayah M. Jackson, a native of New York City who trained at some of the most respected institutions in American dance. She is a graduate of LaGuardia High School of the Performing Arts (known as "The Fame School") and earned her B.F.A. from The Juilliard School. After graduating, Sumayah performed and toured internationally with Pascal Rioult Dance Theatre, Fred Benjamin Dance Co., BattleWorks, and The Parsons Dance Company. She performed as a soloist in David Parsons' signature piece "Caught" and has set his repertory on dance companies and universities across the U.S. and Europe.

The studio offers a structured, level-based programme designed to build strong technique from early childhood. Tiny Tots (ages 3–7) is an interactive introduction to dance using games, stories, and songs to teach balance, rhythm, movement, coordination, and basic ballet, tap and jazz steps. Jr. Level (ages 8–12) is an intermediate programme where dancers train a minimum of 7 hours a week across different genres, with the goal of developing professionalism, self-esteem, technique and sportsmanship while building a strong foundation in dance. Sr. Level (ages 13+) is the highest level of training, where dancers learn advanced combinations and skills, classical variations and ballet history. Talented and dedicated dancers are selected every summer during the audition process for both Jr. and Sr. levels.

The curriculum covers ballet, pointe, contemporary, jazz, tap and hip hop. Ballet is taught as a classical, disciplined foundation focusing on technique and precision of movement, including barre and center work to gain strength, balance, body alignment and flexibility. Pointe is available once students attain a strong level of technique and skill in ballet. Contemporary combines classical and modern dance elements and is recommended as an addition to students of jazz or ballet. Jazz incorporates technique, coordination, flexibility and choreography across broadway, classic, pop and lyrical styles. Tap is a rhythmic form where tap shoes are used as an instrument, encouraging strong rhythm, timing and musicality. Hip hop is a modern, evolving style that develops body awareness through dynamic and intricate movements set to contemporary music.

The academy is committed to maintaining a clean and safe facility. Classes are structured around age and skill level, with Tiny Tots meeting on Sundays from 10am to 11am for a ballet/tap/jazz combo introduction.
