About this studio

Dynamix Dance Academy runs classes across two locations: Cowley Workers Social Club in Oxford and Longwick Village Hall in Princes Risborough. The school welcomes all ages and abilities, from Tiny Dancers at 2.5 years old through to adults, and describes itself as a fun, safe and nurturing learning environment that values expression, enjoyment and commitment to progress.

The teaching faculty is led by Samantha Ings, the owner and principal, who holds RAD RTS and ISTD DDE qualifications in Teaching Ballet, Tap, Modern, Musical Theatre and Street Dance. Samantha trained from age three at the Sylvie Henry School of Dance in London, then at Kaleidoscope Theatre Arts. She achieved an A* in GCSE Dance and an A at A-Level, earned her ISTD Tap and Modern teaching qualifications under ISTD examiners Penny Meekings and Linda Sweetzer, and completed her Certificate in Ballet Teaching Studies at RAD, receiving her certificate from Dame Darcey Bussell DBE upon graduation. She has over 15 years of teaching experience and maintains a consistent 100% pass rate for her students. The team also includes Beth Russell (LRAD) teaching Tiny Dancers and Ballet at the Cowley branch, Holly Sheils (ISTD DDE, AISTD Commercial, DIP MT) teaching Tiny Dancers, Musical Theatre, Tap, Modern, Commercial and Ballet at the Longwick branch, and Madison assisting Tiny Dancers at the Cowley branch.

Classes follow RAD Syllabi for Ballet and ISTD syllabi for Tap and Modern Theatre. Tiny Dancers (2.5–5 years) use imaginative movement and storytelling combined with foundational steps in tap, ballet and modern. Ballet progresses from Primary (age 5) through to Grade 8, the final graded examination, with each grade developing strength, technique and performance skills and culminating in an examination with certificate and medal. From Grade 1, students learn Character work covering dances from Ukraine, Hungary, Russia and Poland; from Grade 2, barre work begins. Tap and Modern for ages 5+ includes both ISTD syllabus and non-syllabus content to encourage technique, performance and musicality, with students moving to Senior classes from age 10. Musical Theatre and Street Dance (5+) cover vocal warm-ups, singing technique, projection, acting through song, improvisation, script learning and writing, and dance styles found in musical theatre and street dance.

All classes encourage a strong sense of technique, performance, strength and flexibility whilst providing space for dancers to express individuality, build confidence and socialise. The school is fully qualified, DBS checked, first aid trained and committed to safeguarding. All classes are suitable for both boys and girls.
