About this studio
Ignis Arts is a ballroom and partner dance studio in Billerica, Massachusetts, run by professional ballroom dancers. The name comes from the Latin word ignis, meaning fire and passion. The studio teaches a wide range of partnered dance styles—both traditional ballroom and modern social dances—with a philosophy centred on connection and communication between partners. They serve the Greater Boston area and work to support the local dance community.
The studio offers three main paths: private lessons (45 minutes, taught one-on-one by expert teachers), drop-in group classes ($15 per class for newcomers), and month-long series classes ($80). All students taking 2 or more private lessons per month receive unlimited access to group classes for free and discounts to events and socials. Private lesson packages are flexible and customised to meet individual goals and budgets, whether that's social dancing, competitive dance sport, wedding dances, or a new activity for couples.
Group classes span multiple levels: Newcomer classes for brand-new dancers, Bronze 1 for those ready to move beyond basics, Bronze 2 for dancers applying fundamentals to advance their skills, and Advanced classes for more technical work. The studio also runs Lindy Hop classes taught by Maria Kakolwski, who teaches across the Boston social scene and offers private Lindy Hop lessons. Adult Intro to Hip Hop classes are offered as a month-long series and focus on grooves, musicality, and approachable choreography. Ballroom Monthly Series classes rotate through styles including West Coast Swing, Country Two-Step, Simple Swing, Salsa, Bachata, and Waltz, meeting on the first four Thursdays of each month from 6:30–7:15pm.
The studio organises monthly socials, usually on the 3rd or 4th Saturday, which begin with a lesson followed by social dancing. These events draw dancers from multiple schools and styles across the Boston area and often include group trips for food or ice cream. Special event classes include Heels and Chair classes taught by Clio. The studio also offers private lessons tailored to wedding dances—first dances, parent dances, and wedding party dances—and serves couples planning their special day.
Beyond dance instruction, Ignis Arts supports local artists by displaying and selling paintings, photography, and bonsai trees in the studio, with 100% of proceeds going directly to the artists. The space also hosts rentals for private events and corporate wellness activities. The studio is located at 630 Boston Rd, Suite 201A, Billerica, MA 01801.
