About this studio
Indy's Finest is West Coast Swing dance instruction and community in Indianapolis, based at Estereo Night Club on East 82nd Street. Eric Byers, the founder and instructor, is a back-to-back NASDE All-Star Jack & Jill tour winner for 2016 and 2017, known internationally for his attention to music and rhythmic footwork. Since 2009, he has competed, studied, and taught West Coast Swing, blending training from ballroom, Latin, and hip hop into his unique style.
Classes run on Wednesday nights. A beginner class starts at 7pm for those new to West Coast Swing or brushing up on basics. An advanced concepts class runs at the same time, focusing on building foundations through advanced techniques, feel, and connection—designed for dancers who want to advance, not only those already experienced. Both classes cost $15 and include hours of open dancing after the lesson.
Eric's teaching emphasises connection and the conversation between two partners within the music. He creates a relaxed learning environment where students feel comfortable being creative and having fun. His reputation includes dancing with anyone and making each dance unique. The Indy dance community is described as welcoming, treating newcomers like family from the moment they walk through the door.
West Coast Swing itself is a partner dance that works to many music styles—Top 40, blues, R&B, country, rock, or anything with a good beat. The dance allows dancers to blend different styles and express themselves individually while maintaining the partner connection.
