About this studio
Indianapolis Movement Arts Collective is a non-profit movement arts organisation dedicated to supporting and connecting the Indianapolis community through shared movement experiences. Based at the Basile Opera Center at 4011 N Pennsylvania Street, IMAC offers weekly dance and movement classes for adult movers of all skill levels and interests.
The studio teaches a diverse range of styles. Weekly classes include Barre & Center with Carrie Webb (select Saturdays 12:30–1:45pm), Belly Dance with Liz Wray (Thursdays, intro 5:45–6:45pm and next level 6:45–8:00pm), Bollywood with Usha Sirimalle (Wednesdays 6:30–7:30pm), EmbodieDance with Lani Weissbach (Tuesdays & Thursdays 10–11am), West African with Ronne Stone (select Saturdays 11am–noon), Tai Chi with Dustin McCreery (Mondays 5:00–6:00pm), Zumba with Demetrees Hutchins (Mondays 6:30–7:30pm), and Pop Up Tap with Joseph Lyons-Wolf (select Saturdays 1–3pm). Mindfulness Meditation with Lani Weissbach also runs select Thursdays 11:15am–noon.
Lani Weissbach, Director of Embodied Learning, has been a devoted educator of mindful movement and meditation practices for over 30 years. She is a graduate and associate faculty for the Eastwest Somatics Institute, a certified yoga teacher with the Integral Yoga Institute, and will graduate from a 2-year mindfulness meditation teacher certification program in January 2025 led by Tara Brach and Jack Kornfield. Lani holds an MFA in dance from Arizona State University, is a Master Somatic Movement Educator/Therapist (MSME/T) with the International Somatic Movement Education and Therapy Association (ISMETA), and is a Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500) with Yoga Alliance. Other instructors include Lauren Curry (Jazz), Devin Hill (Hip Hop), and more.
Beyond weekly classes, IMAC runs an active events programme including the Open Stage Performance series—featuring new works by artists throughout the region and nationally—workshops with visiting artists, community dance parties, and special showcases. Recent events have included the Neon Black Festival (the first Black dance festival in Indianapolis), Ten Tiny Dances in partnership with Crossroads Dance Indy, and performances by nationally recognised artists. The organisation also operates the Makers Lab, Open Stage Program, and other artist support initiatives.
