International Ballroom Dance Studios

International Ballroom Dance Studios has served the Greater Charleston area since 2006, operating two locations: one in Charleston at 1938 Ashley River Rd and another in Mount Pleasant at 1009 Anna Knapp Boulevard. The studio is locally owned and staffed by NDCA-certified instructors trained by world champion coaches.

The studio teaches a comprehensive range of ballroom and Latin styles. Ballroom options include waltz, foxtrot, tango, Viennese waltz, and American smooth. Latin styles include rumba, cha-cha, swing, bolero, mambo, and American rhythm. Social dance offerings cover salsa, bachata, merengue, West Coast swing, Carolina shag, and nightclub dances. The instructors are trilingual, speaking English, Russian, and Spanish.

Classes are structured for all skill levels, from novice to champion. The studio offers an Introductory Dance Program for those new to ballroom, private lessons for personalized one-on-one instruction, group dance classes in a supportive environment, and a specialized Wedding Dance Program for couples preparing for their first dance. Students can attend lessons with a partner or solo; those coming alone often rotate partners in group settings.

Beyond regular instruction, International Ballroom hosts regular Social Dance Parties where students can practice their skills in a relaxed, community-focused setting with varied music and plenty of room to move. The studio also serves all ages, including children and teens, with age-appropriate instruction that emphasizes coordination, confidence, discipline, and social skills.

The studio operates Monday to Friday, 12:30 pm to 8:30 pm, with Saturday appointments available by request. Payment options include American Express, cash, check, Discover, MasterCard, Visa, and Venmo. The Mount Pleasant location has a wheelchair-accessible parking lot.

Your first lesson begins with comfortable clothing and shoes with smooth soles—specialised dance shoes are not required for beginners. Instructors break down steps clearly and tailor lessons to your experience level. You may rotate with different partners in group classes, or work one-on-one with an instructor in private lessons. The environment is welcoming and designed to help you feel at ease.

All instructors are certified by the National Dance Council of America and trained by world champion coaches. They bring years of performance, competition, and coaching experience. Instructors are trilingual, speaking English, Russian, and Spanish.

Beginners are absolutely welcome; instructors excel at helping newcomers feel comfortable, with a focus on simplifying steps and building confidence.
