About this studio
James & Alex Dance Studios has been in business since 2012. The studio occupies a 4,000 sq ft venue with 3 studios in Dubai Media City, opposite Arjaan Rotana Hotel and next to Palm Jumeirah Tram Station. It is home to several leading dance companies and instructors based in Dubai, many with international experience who are regularly invited to perform and teach throughout Europe and Asia.
Adult classes span salsa (On1, On2, and Cuban Rueda Casino), bachata (Dominican, Moderna, Sensual and fusion styles), kizomba (Urban Kiz and Tarraxinha), ballet, contemporary, hip hop, commercial hip hop, pole fitness, zumba, aerial hammock, silk and mat stretch, stretching and pilates, high heels, belly dance, afrobeat, reggaeton, shuffle, and ladies styling. Wedding choreography and special occasions classes are also offered. Kids' classes include ballet, contemporary, hip hop, and a musical theatre program. The studio runs a Kids Summer Dance Camp.
Salsa courses are structured from beginner (Level 1, 8–12 weeks, twice weekly) through intermediate (Level 2, 6 months, twice weekly) to advanced (Level 3, 4 months, twice weekly). Bachata follows a similar progression with Levels 1–1.5 (2–3 months), Levels 2–3 (6 months), and Level 4 (4 months, twice monthly). Kizomba offers Level 1 (2–3 months, twice weekly) and Level 2 (6 months, twice weekly). Ballet classes are available for all abilities from beginner to intermediate. All Latin partner classes rotate partners; no partner is required. Free social dancing follows lessons. The spacious dance floor accommodates 50–100 people.
Classes run Monday to Sunday, 10am to 10pm. The studio offers demo classes and accepts online bookings. A dance shop stocks leotards, shorts, skirts and shoes. Studio hire is available for events and corporate functions.
What to expect
Your first visit
Book a demo class to try before committing. You'll warm up with basic steps and simple patterns, rotate partners throughout (no partner needed), and hear the music and counts to develop ear training. Classes run once per hour and are designed to progress steadily. Free social dancing follows many classes.

The studio is led by James Castro and Alex, both main salsa instructors. James is noted for teaching with passion and patience; Alex is known for creating a joyful atmosphere. Other named instructors include Ward Mhanna, Nwelati Ahmed, Nameer Ayzoukey, Menna Hesham (salsa and bachata), Shams Tagirov (kizomba), and Elena Egorova (ballet). Several instructors have international experience and are regularly invited to perform and teach throughout Europe and Asia.

What to bring
Wear any comfortable clothing you would wear on a regular day. For salsa, bachata and kizomba, wear shoes that won't slip off easily or grip the floor too much. For ballet, wear form-fitting clothing such as a leotard, tights, leggings and fitted top; ballet slippers are recommended but socks work if you don't have them. Personal hygiene is important as you will be dancing with partners.
