About this studio
Machita Dance Company operates two locations—MDC West in Port Allen and MDC East in Baton Rouge—built on a mission to nurture life skills through dance. The studio was founded in Port Allen as "a dream and a dance family" and has since expanded while maintaining the same positive environment and sense of community at both sites.
The studio teaches a full range of styles including ballet, tap, jazz, hip hop, lyrical, contemporary, and acro. Summer programming showcases this breadth: the Back to the Barre intensive (July 20–22) focuses on ballet technique, variations, pre-pointe, pointe, flexibility and control; the Excel Dance Intensive (July 23–25) covers jazz technique, leaps and turns, stretch and strength, contemporary, lyrical, conditioning, tap, hip hop, ballet and acro. Both intensives are open to ages 6 and up.
Machita Dance Company runs a competitive dance company called EXCEL, which has "a reputation for exceptional, well-trained, technical performers." All company dancers audition annually and sign contracts committing to the full season. The company is structured by age: Minis (ages 4–5), Preps (ages 6–7), Juniors (ages 8–10), Intermediate (ages 11–12), Teens (ages 13–15), and Seniors (ages 16–19).
The teaching faculty includes Director Jade McCune, Co-Director Alyse Carriere, teachers Jade McCune, Alyse Carriere, Zata Lanclos, Elise Theriot, and Anna Claire Scott, plus consultant Jordan Rish. CEO Lynn Prejean leads the organisation. The studio's mission emphasises developing self-confidence, self-discipline, spirituality, and an appreciation for the arts—values the studio believes transfer beyond dance to other life experiences.
MDC West is located at 2203 American Way in Port Allen and operates Monday to Thursday, 3pm–9pm. The studio offers both regular classes and summer intensives, with registration available for all programmes.
