About this studio

Margie Shortt Dance Studio has been part of Gulf Breeze since 1973, celebrating 50 years of dance in 2023. The studio's mission is to inspire and nurture a lifelong love for dance in every child, empowering them with skills, confidence, and creativity to express themselves through movement. They believe dance teaches technique while instilling discipline, self-esteem, and the joy of artistic expression.

The studio features a wooden spring floating floor, ballet barres, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. Students begin by mastering foundational techniques including rhythm, body alignment, music appreciation, and dance terminology. Along the way they build self-confidence, foster friendships, and develop grace. A graded dance system ensures each dancer progresses at their own pace, supporting steady growth and improvement.

Classes run Monday through Thursday during the dance season (August through May). The studio offers tap, jazz, hip-hop, ballet, pointe, lyrical, and acrobatics. Classes are available for ages 2½ and up, with separate tracks for different age groups and ability levels. Pre Pointe and Pointe classes require prior ballet experience and instructor approval. Acrobatics classes require students to be at least 6 years old and enrolled in a tap, ballet, or general dance class.

Beyond regular classes, the studio hosts studio events including monthly movie nights on Friday evenings (for 6th grade and under) with movies, games and pizza. A summer dance camp runs for five days in June, where dancers aged 5 and older learn tap dances and a 10-minute musical theatre piece, with technique, games, crafts and activities throughout the days. Birthday parties can be booked for weekend time slots, offering a dance-filled celebration in the studio's professional environment.
