Before your first class

About this studio
Massari-Wood Dance Center enters its 52nd year teaching ballet, tap, jazz, and contemporary to students across all levels. The studio occupies expanded facilities in the rear of the East Brainerd/Graysville Road Family Shopping Center, with three studio spaces for classes and rehearsals.
The centre is home to the Civic Ballet of Chattanooga, which offers training company and senior company options for committed dancers. A progressive curriculum runs from Music and Movement and Pre-Ballet through Primary Division (ages 6–8, combining ballet and tap), Elementary Ballet, Intermediate Ballet, and into adult and teen classes. Tap, Jazz, Lyrical and Contemporary Styles are taught across multiple levels. Adult offerings include Adult/Teen Ballet (levels 1–3), Adult/Teen Tap, Adult Jazz and Contemporary, and Yoga. Private instruction is also available.
The studio runs a full schedule during the school year (2025/2026 classes include options on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays) and a dedicated 10-week summer programme (starting 22 June 2026) with unlimited class options at $250 per person. Summer classes include Stretch & Strength/PBT, Lyrical (described as "very special" and only offered in summer), Ballet 1–3, Pre-Pointe/Pointe Conditioning, and Pointe/Pre-Pointe 2. Private lessons in summer are $50 for one hour or $30 for 30 minutes.
The studio's philosophy emphasises building not just technique but a lasting love of dance and the performing arts. Young dancers participate in seasonal productions including the Nutcracker (with roles like Silver Cherubs, Golden Angels, and Mice in the Battlescene for Primary Division students). The centre hosts sharing programmes and productions featuring costumes and props from its own treasure chest, creating a vibrant community space where musicians, singers and actors also rehearse alongside dancers.

Open house registration runs on selected dates in August and early September. The studio operates three studio spaces with a mixed-age, mixed-level environment where classes run throughout the week. Many classes fill quickly, so early enrolment is recommended.
