Mirov Academy of Dance

Mirov Academy of Dance is a professional ballet school in Bornheim, Frankfurt, built on the Vaganova method. The studio was founded by Madalena Abrantes and Yury Mirov, who developed a concept where "strangers become part of their ballet family". Their teaching draws directly from Saint-Petersburg: Yury Mirov studied at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet and has performed principal roles across the world, including the Royal Albert Hall, London Coliseum, and Théâtre des Champs-Élysées. Valeriia Sklotskaia, also trained at Vaganova (graduating with a gold medal in 2019), spent four seasons with the Bavarian State Ballet before joining the school in 2023.

Classes span three populations. Children aged 2–8 take pre-professional ballet, learning the six positions, jumps, turns and small dances. Adults (18+) choose from ballet for beginners, ballet for advanced, pointe shoes, barre, mat-pilates, and stretching—all designed as a "fitness lifestyle" that combines ballet, stretching and ballet-inspired workouts. The academy programme, open to those aiming for professional careers and serious amateurs, includes ballet, pointe, variation, repertoire, stretching, barre, contemporary dance, acting skills and character dance. Academy dancers participate in (inter)national competitions, take principal roles in school performances, and sit Vaganova-school-inspired exams with degrees.

You can book a trial lesson (€25) and decide afterwards whether to join. When you arrive, register at the front desk and use the changing rooms or come already dressed. Bring only your water bottle, mobile phone and small bag into the studio. Parents are actively welcome—there's a coffee, matcha, smoothie bar and snacks available while you wait.

Membership options include Academy (€325–390 per month for up to 15 hours weekly, all classes included plus competitions and performances), Diamond (€225–270 for up to 6 hours), Gold (€135–162 for up to 3 hours), Silver (€75–90 for 1 hour), and Prince(ss) (€45–54 for 1 hour with performance participation). All include ballet beginners and advanced, pointe, stretching, barre and mat-pilates where applicable. Flex contracts allow cancellation every 3 months; fix contracts run 12 months with cancellation once yearly. Class packs (10, 15 or 20 hours) are available for adults 18+ without a contract, valid for 3–6 months.

Register at the front desk when you arrive and use the changing rooms if needed. Classes begin on time, so arrive with enough time to prepare. Bring only your water bottle, mobile phone and a small bag into the studio itself. After your trial lesson, visit the front desk to decide whether to pay for the single class or sign a membership—if you join, the trial is free.

Yury Mirov, co-founder and head teacher, studied at the Vaganova Academy of Russian Ballet in Leningrad and has danced principal roles across the Royal Albert Hall, London Coliseum, Théâtre des Champs-Élysées and stages worldwide. Madalena Abrantes, co-founder and teacher, is 20 and has trained in ballet since age three, currently studying business sciences at Goethe University; she teaches pre-ballet and fitness classes. Valeriia Sklotskaia, teacher since 2023, graduated from Vaganova Academy with a gold medal in 2019 and danced for four seasons with the Bavarian State Ballet.

Ballet for beginners and mat-pilates welcome those with no experience; stretching and barre are also open to all levels.
