About this studio
Morlock School of Dance has served East Hartford for 70 years. Founded as Mary Morlock School of Performing Arts, it was handed down to current owners and artistic directors Christine Sessa and Elizabeth Sanderson, who have been leading the studio for 16 years. They believe that dance is an art that should be enjoyed by everyone, and they create a fun and creative environment for children to learn while teaching current dance techniques. The studio emphasises good dance technique alongside instilling a love for dance in all students.
Christine Sessa and Elizabeth Sanderson continue to broaden their own dance education by taking part in many dance conventions and workshops throughout the year. Both remain committed to being the best teachers they can be and providing the best dance education possible.
The studio offers classes for preschool (ages 3–4), kindergarten (ages 5–6), intro classes (ages 7–8), and older children through to adults. Class styles include tap, ballet, jazz, hip hop, acrobatics (with equipment such as balance beams, mini trampolines, and crash mats), contemporary/modern, and gym. Most classes run for 45 minutes; specialty classes in contemporary/modern and junior/teen jazz, modern, and ballet are 1 hour. Beginner through advanced levels are available in tap, jazz, and ballet.
The dance year runs from mid-September to mid-June. Summer classes are offered in August, running for 4 weeks on Wednesday through Friday. A recital is held at the end of the dance year in mid-June. The studio offers a discount scheme: buy 3 one-hour classes, get the 4th one free per family, or buy 5 classes and receive unlimited classes after that. Competition classes may not be counted in this discount. Summer sessions cost $50 for one four-week session.
