About this studio
PopRox Dance is a Seattle-based studio with two locations—Capitol Hill and University District—built on a mission to welcome everyone regardless of age, shape, background, race, skill level or sexual orientation. The studio is run by co-founders Kinsey Flores and Cathy Barnett, who believe dance is a fundamental human need for connection and happiness that should unite rather than discriminate.
The Capitol Hill studio, located at Chophouse Row on 12th Ave, features a big dance floor, private studio, lounge, and retail store. The University District location at 4571 11th Ave NE is described as a light-filled space full of good vibes. Both sites host weekly adult classes for ages 16+ organised by style and level, from introductory through intermediate and advanced.
Adult weekly classes span a rich range of styles: hip hop, K-pop, jazz funk, heels, dance after dark, footwork, grooves, twerking, house, and contemporary. Classes are offered at multiple levels—introductory, beginner, intermediate, and advanced—so you can join at your own pace. Capitol Hill runs classes Monday through Sunday, from early morning K-pop throwbacks on Saturday at 10 a.m. to evening workshops as late as 10 p.m. University District offers a similar breadth across the week. Both sites feature rotating workshops for all levels.
Beyond drop-in classes, PopRox offers private lessons at $120/hour for 1:1 instruction (plus $20/hour per additional person), with a one-hour minimum and 10% bulk discount when you purchase 6+ hours upfront. The studio runs wedding choreography services, creating custom routines for your big day. Youth classes are booked by the semester (typically 15 weeks) and separated by age group rather than level so kids feel successful within their peer groups. A summer camp and K-pop pre-teen series are also available. School programmes and private lessons for youth are offered as well.
PopRox hosts special workshops throughout the season—recent offerings include Karol G Night and Summer Walker-themed 90-minute sessions. The studio can be rented for events: the Capitol Hill location offers both small and large rental spaces, and the U-District site is available for shared studio time bookings. Company offsites and group classes are also available. The team includes Julia Kassel (head of operations & community), May Qiang (head of product experience), and a warm front desk crew committed to making every visitor feel safe and accepted.

What beginners can expect
Classes explicitly labelled introductory and beginner across all styles; the studio emphasises that dance doesn't have to be intimidating and welcomes first-timers.
Studio history
PopRox was founded by Kinsey Flores and Cathy Barnett. Kinsey spent her childhood taking dance classes and creating performances; for her, dance mends a bad day and creates community. Cathy caught the dance bug at age 5 watching the Solid Gold Dancers on TV, danced professionally in the 1990s across Australia and New Zealand, and believes dance celebrates music and unites people with no limits to its creativity.
