About this studio
Break Art Studios Leipzig (BASS) is the first dance academy in Leipzig dedicated entirely to urban dance styles. It teaches Breaking (B-Boying/B-Girling), Hip-Hop, and Locking to children, teenagers, and adults across multiple age groups and skill levels.
The studio operates as part of Musik- und Kunstschule Clara Schumann Leipzig and builds on a unique concept developed by the Freie Oberschule Leipzig, where urban dance has been part of the mandatory curriculum for several years. The teaching team consists of renown dancers who bring years of dance, instruction, and project experience. Their pedagogical approach centres on fostering joy in movement, creativity, and social competence through urban dance.
BASS offers a structured course and level system serving different age groups: Kids (ages 5–9, one hour per week); Rookies (ages 9–12, 90 minutes per week); Semi (ages 10–15 with prior experience, 90 minutes per week); and Advanced levels. Within each tier, courses are offered across the three dance styles. Kids classes focus on playful learning of basic steps and rhythm training. Rookies develop foundational technique and learn choreography. Semi and Advanced students work on complex movement sequences, freestyle improvisation, and performance skills.
The studio is housed in two dedicated dance rooms of approximately 87 m² and 65 m², each equipped with sprung dance flooring and mirror walls. It sits on the Campus Graphisches Viertel, a multi-building educational campus that includes kindergarten, schools, and the music school under one roof.
Beyond regular classes, BASS encourages participation in battles (competitive events) and stage productions. The teaching philosophy aims to develop individual, creative dancers who discover dance as an important part of their lives and have above all the joy of dancing.
What to expect
Your first visit
You'll join a structured age and skill-appropriate class in one of two dedicated dance studios with sprung floors and mirrors. Instruction covers foundational technique, rhythm training, choreography, and freestyle depending on your level, with an emphasis on building your own individual style.
