About this studio

Studio B Dance & Performing Arts has served East Dallas since 2006, founded with a mission to develop well-rounded performers in the community. The studio is led by Ms Bessie, whose letter to families emphasizes that the impact a teacher can have on a student's life is a top priority.

Classes start as early as age 3 with Combo 2-3 (Ballet and Tap for 30 minutes once a week) and progress through carefully structured levels. Young children begin with combination classes that blend ballet, tap and later jazz, designed to build foundational technique and confidence. Level I classes (ages 6-7) introduce Jazz, Tap, Lyrical, Hip Hop and Ballet as separate disciplines. From there, the studio offers Level II (ages 7-9), Level III (ages 9-11) and Level IV (ages 12-14), with the studio suggesting dancers complete two years at each level before advancing.

The curriculum spans Ballet, Jazz and Musical Theatre, Tap, Lyrical and Hip Hop. Ballet emphasizes classical technique at the barre, centre and across the floor, with both classical and contemporary choreography. Jazz ranges from Broadway jazz to contemporary jazz and jazz funk. Lyrical combines ballet, jazz and modern techniques to emphasize interpretation of music and storytelling. Musical Theatre classes teach singing, dancing and acting as triple-threat skills, with students learning a new musical each month during the fall semester, plus a holiday-themed piece for the Holiday Show and another for the May Recital. Tap dance covers everything from its Vaudeville and Broadway roots to modern Step and Rhythmic tap.

The studio operates two locations: the primary studio at 2108 Kidwell Street and Studio B Wellness at 6333 E Mockingbird Lane. Classes run September through May. Whether your child wants to dance recreationally, loves performing or wants to compete, the studio states it has a class for every student. Teachers are professionally trained dancers with a passion for developing creative avenues for self-expression. The studio also runs summer camps and produces a Holiday Show and May Recital.
