About this studio
Studio Detroit Dance Center (SDDC) is a multipurpose dance studio in Hazel Park offering classes to dancers starting at age 2 and up. Founded by Angela Blocker-Loyd, a Detroit native with almost 20 years of instructing experience, the studio aims to train young dancers in a supportive, high-energy environment where they can develop artistry and gain real-world performance opportunities.
The facility maintains multiple fully equipped studios and offers classes in ballet, jazz, hip hop, contemporary, and dance fitness. SDDC is structured around different levels: recreational classes for beginners, intermediate and advanced instruction, and a pre-professional dance company for those pursuing competitive and professional training. The competitive dance company has travelled across North America, earning awards and positioning students to compete at regional, national, and international levels.
Every instructor at SDDC is a working professional in the dance industry. The team includes Jenna Dae (Assistant Pre-Professional Company director and hip hop, technique, jazz and ballet instructor, trained since age 4 and selected to perform with the UDA All-American Team for 3 consecutive years); DeJanea "DaeDae" Jones (trained in ballet, pointe, tap, jazz, lyrical, modern and African dance); Joslyn Reese (Detroit School of Arts graduate, former Detroit Ballet Theater member, over 20 years of experience, intermediate and advanced ballet and pointe instructor); Rita Mosley (over 30 years of dance experience, certified with the Cecchetti Council of America and Dance Masters of America, former dancer and choreographer for Aretha Franklin); Jade Moore (Wayne State University graduate with dual degrees in business and dance, Grade One Teacher Certification in Cecchetti Ballet, teaches hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, contemporary and ballet); Gina Ellis (Cass Technical High School graduate, performed in Broadway productions including The Wiz, assistant stage manager for the National Company of Five Guys Named Moe, teaches modern, ballet and tumbling); and Kendall "KC" Chapple (seven-year veteran NFL Cheerleader and captain, trained at BalletMet Columbus on full scholarship).
SDDC offers multiple performance opportunities throughout the year. Students participate in a Winter Showcase and Annual Spring Recital. The studio also facilitates professional performance bookings—students have landed performance opportunities with major artists including gospel sensation Kierra Sheard. Beyond performance, the facility hosts private events, rehearsals, casting calls and auditions. SDDC also offers rentals and outreach services to the Detroit community and surrounding metro areas.
