About this studio
Vicky Fields Dance offers private lessons and group classes in social dance styles at a central Denver location. The studio is run by Vicky Fields Forero, a master teacher with 30 years of experience and 25 years of performing and 15 years of teaching. Her background spans jazz, ballet and an extensive range of ballroom and Latin styles: salsa, mambo, bachata, cha-cha, merengue, rumba, cumbia, swing, lindy hop, jitterbug, west coast swing, tango, Argentine tango, waltz and foxtrot.
Vicky's training includes world-class instruction: Gwen Bowen in ballet and jazz; Karen Lee in salsa, mambo, cha-cha, rumba, lindy hop and west coast swing; Grand Master Carlos Gavito in Argentine tango; Master Eddie Torres in NY mambo; Enio Cordoba and Teryl Jones in salsa and cha-cha; and swing legend Frankie Manning in lindy hop. Her travels to Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Colombia have deepened her knowledge and feel for Latin dance styles.
Tony Forero teaches alongside Vicky. Tony grew up in Bogota, Colombia, where salsa dancing is part of the culture, and has lived in Miami and Denver. He brings what the studio calls "the real feel" to salsa teaching, blending Miami Cuban rhythm, LA moves and the fast Colombian style. He also teaches cumbia, vallenato and west coast swing.
Private lessons are structured with an initial consultation covering your goals and background, followed by 45 minutes learning steps and evaluating your strengths and weaknesses. The focus is on rhythm, timing, balance, posture, style and variety of moves. An introductory private lesson costs $50 (or $40 on the website's other mention; the first lesson is free if you book a 12-hour package). Hourly rates range from $70 to $90 per hour. Lesson packages are available: 4 hours for $400 ($100/hour), 8 hours for $720 ($90/hour), and 12 hours for $960 ($80/hour).
Group classes cover salsa, bachata, swing and wedding dance, though the website notes these are coming soon. The studio is located inside the Denver Turnverein at 1570 N Clarkson, Denver, a central location. The studio also offers wedding dance choreography and preparation.
