About this studio
Center Stage Dance Academy has been serving Indianapolis since 1994, with 30 years of dance instruction on the south side. Michelle Bergdoll, the owner and lead instructor, has built the studio into an award-winning programme with multiple choreography awards to her name. She has also provided choreography and coaching for local middle school and high school dance teams, cheer squads, colour guards, show choirs, and musicals.
The studio teaches a range of styles: Jazz, Ballet, Tap, Lyrical, Hip-Hop, Pointe, Contemporary, and more. Classes are available for children as young as 18 months old, all the way up to teens and adults, with coed classes also on offer. The studio operates Monday to Thursday, 3:30 pm to 9:30 pm, with limited hours on Saturday.
Center Stage runs competitive dance teams that have travelled across the United States to compete in regional and nationals competitions. The academy has performed at Walt Disney World four times: in 2004, 2008, 2012, and 2016. Many of their competitors have earned dance scholarships at major universities. All students are invited to participate in an annual recital held in June.
The studio positions itself as a safe haven where dancers learn self-esteem, teamwork, confidence, pride, strength, and respect through dance. Class sizes are limited to 10 students per instructor, with an assistant present if numbers exceed that maximum. A minimum of 5 students is required for a class to run. The studio offers family discounts and operates a dancewear shop at the front of the studio for student convenience.
What to expect
Your first visit
Classes run Monday to Thursday afternoons and evenings. You'll find a family-style environment with small class sizes (maximum 10 students per instructor) and instruction across multiple dance styles. Annual observation days are scheduled so parents can watch their dancers.
