About this studio

Fearless Dance Empire started in 2014 as an after-school program with 22 young dancers at Coldstream Park Elementary Middle School, under the direction of Ms. LaKeisha Johnson. The studio was founded on a clear mission: to provide an artistic outlet that would change the lives of young students in Baltimore City, offering a positive and structured environment for self-expression at a time when there was a serious need for it.

Ms. Johnson has danced since age 2, beginning at a local Police Athletic League (PAL) Center in Northeast Baltimore. She trained for ten years at Baltimore Dance Tech. under Ms. Stephanie Powell, and studied at The Baltimore School for the Arts T.W.I.G.S. program. She is a 2015 Community Studies and Civic Engagement graduate of the University of Baltimore. Her vision for Fearless Dance Empire reflects her understanding that arts education defines discipline, self-confidence, teamwork, and creativity.

The programme has grown significantly from those early days. Students have performed in Washington DC, South Carolina, for Lieutenant Governor Boyd Rutherford, at the Baltimore City Housing Annual Youth Summit, for Mayor The Honorable Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, in various churches and events across Baltimore, and even danced for VH1's Mendeecees Harris' speaker series. The studio now operates at 4 locations, partners with 3 Baltimore City Public and Charter Schools, and serves over 450 students.

Classes include Ballet, Modern, Tap, Pointe, Hip Hop, Jumps and Turns, and Acrobatics (offered once a week). The studio has also added Audition Prep (covering piano, voice, and audition techniques), a Boys Combo Class (Tap and Hip Hop), Fearless DANCEability (for students with special needs), Lioness Lair (programming for adult women), and Lion's Den (programming for adult men). IMPROV classes are also available.

Ms. Johnson's philosophy is that not every student needs to become a professional dancer—rather, every student has the ability to strive for their personal excellence. The studio believes all students can evolve physically, mentally, and emotionally through dance and develop self-esteem, confidence, teamwork, and discipline.
