About this studio
Firehouse 5 occupies Sacramento's historic Firehouse Station No. 5 in downtown, a cozy and community-oriented space dedicated to dance and movement. The studio was founded by visionary Dan "Hunny" Printz, alongside Michelle Gorre and Chris Peake. Dan's legacy—a welcoming environment where the community could gather, connect, and grow through dance—continues to define the studio. The space stands intentionally a little off the beaten path, maintaining an inviting, fun, and casual atmosphere.
Classes run seven days a week across multiple styles. Argentine Tango is central: Tuesdays and Fridays offer tiered progression from beginner fundamentals through mixed-level explorations, always ending in practice or social dancing. Friday classes rotate focus between the milonga and vals forms. Sundays feature Solo Tango Technique & Choreography for leads and follows. Argentine Tango socials (práctica) meet on the 1st and 3rd Saturdays, 8pm–11pm+.
Fusion classes meet every Sunday and Wednesday, 7–8pm, blending styles for unique experiences and covering frame, connection, and musicality. These feed into weekly socials (8–11pm) and culminate in a monthly Theme Night & Community Potluck on the last Sunday of each month, running 7pm–12:30am with theme decor, curated DJs, and costume encouragement. Blues lessons and socials run every 2nd and 4th Thursday, 7–8pm lesson followed by 8–11pm social to blues and jazz music. Contact Improvisation jams meet 1st and 3rd Thursdays, 7–9pm, exploring weight, balance, reflex, impulse, and momentum through non-verbal physical conversation.
The studio welcomes all skill levels and does not require a partner for any class. First-timers get into Wednesday Fusion for free. Pricing is accessible: $5 for most lessons, $15–20 for socials on a sliding scale, $80 monthly pass (includes theme night plus blues lessons and socials). Sammie Anne oversees studio rentals and drives Fusion events; Mike Dreckman handles operations and maintenance.
