About this studio

Jean Kettell Studio of Dance has educated dancers in Dundalk for over 70 years. Under the direction of Jean Kettell Gable, a former Rockette, the studio has become a community fixture — there's a saying in Dundalk that everyone knows at least one person who has studied dance there. The studio draws students from Sparrows Point and Perry Hall, and as far away as Pennsylvania.

The studio's philosophy centres on inclusion: they believe dance is for everyone. Classes run for ages 18 months through adult, with offerings in Creative Movement, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Pointe, Lyrical, Hip Hop, and Musical Theatre. Move with Me sessions introduce toddlers to dance with a caregiver present, keeping lessons age-appropriate. Regular season classes serve students aged 2½ to 18 years. Adult Series sessions welcome dancers of all backgrounds — those who have never danced, those returning to dance, and experienced dancers.

The studio does not participate in competition. Instead, they offer a Performance Group by audition, where students get to share their talents with varied audiences. There are no solos — the studio builds dancers who work as a team. This philosophy reflects their broader mission: beyond teaching dance technique, they aim to provide physical, artistic, and social benefits to every student. They value individuality, work to each child's pace, and challenge strengths while helping students work through struggles.

Regular season registration opens soon; summer programmes are currently open and summer students get priority for the regular season. Tours are available, during which families can register, watch a class, and meet staff. The studio operates Monday to Friday from 5:30pm to 8:30pm, with select Saturday and Sunday classes. Adult Series sessions vary in style, dates, times, and frequency — currently Tuesdays 7:30–9:00pm offers Ballet, Jazz, and Tap, each for 30 minutes, at $30 per month for all three or $10 per month per style.
