About this studio
Karl & DiMarco North is a dance studio in Lutz, Florida serving the Tampa Bay area with over 35 classes across all ages and skill levels. The studio was founded in 1972 by Sandy Karl and Bobby Karl as Karl & DiMarco School of Dance & Theater. The original studio earned credits in 13 original Broadway shows including Music Man, West Side Story, Li'l Abner, Half a Sixpence, and Illya Darling, and worked on Hollywood films including Mary Poppins, State Fair, Bye Bye Birdie, My Six Loves, and West Side Story. That professional theatre and film experience has shaped the teaching philosophy at K&D North.
The studio teaches ballet, jazz, contemporary, acrobatics, tap, hip-hop, musical theatre, lyrical, combo, transition, jumps and turns, conditioning, and zumba. Ballet is emphasised as the foundation for technique across all other styles. Ballet instructors include Brad, Carolyn, and Nicole. For younger dancers, combo classes blend ballet, tap and acrobatics in one-hour sessions. Jazz classes focus on technique-driven combinations and modern choreography. Contemporary dancers must be enrolled in ballet first. Acrobatics is available for ages 6 and up, progressing from basics to floor tricks and routines.
The studio runs The Company, an audition-only ensemble made up of dancers at the highest skill level across all ages. The Company trains, performs and competes throughout the year. Dance recitals are held throughout the year, and the studio offers themed summer camps and intensives. Zumba classes run Mondays and Wednesdays at 10:30 AM and require no prior experience.
The teaching staff includes Robyn Hurlburt (North Dance Director), along with Jennifer Neldner, Carolyn Rose, Jordan Raybon, Ava Martin, Lisa Ferlita, Abby Pedraza, Erica Loper, Jessi Hobson, Kylie Weaver, and Chris Augustin. The studio notes 200 years of combined dance experience across its faculty. Classes are available for tiny dancers through adults, and the studio accepts all levels of dancers.

Specific attire requirements vary by class. Combo and transition classes require pink or black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet shoes, tan Mary Jane style tap shoes, and hair off the face. Lyrical dancers wear black leotard, dance shorts or shirts (optional), and tan twylas. Conditioning class calls for active wear and tennis shoes.
