About this studio
Marameo Berlin e.V. is a registered non-profit dance studio located at Wallstraße 32 in Mitte, operating as a hub for contemporary and classical dance training at all levels. The studio occupies two spaces: a large former gymnasium approximately 23 metres by 11 metres with a 16-metre mirrored wall, sprung floor, barre, piano and four-speaker sound system; and a smaller studio with laminate floor, yoga and pilates mats, and Gyrokinesis equipment.
The studio's philosophy centres on what they call "The Core Dance is the radical presence." They teach daily professional training alongside classes for children, teens, and adults, plus an extensive summer programme running July to August. Classes span contemporary dance, ballet, hip-hop, contact improvisation, movement research, pilates, floorbarre, Klein Technique, weissmann Technique, Gaga, and inclusive dance. Professional dancers attend intensive summer workshops with international guest teachers in ballet and contemporary styles.
Regular programming includes evening jams: the marameo Sunday Jam (Sundays 20:30–22:30, open level contact improvisation) and the marameo Contact Jam (Thursdays 21:30–23:30, arrival 21:15, opening circle 21:30). The Group Motion Workshop meets monthly with Heidi Weiss and Jennifer Mann. Studio Evenings happen roughly monthly on Saturdays, showcasing works-in-progress and finished pieces with sliding-scale entry (5–10€).
The management team includes An Boekman (board member since 1997, dance mediator and choreographer), Thekla Wolff (manager since 2026), Ronja Grabow (dramaturge, on parental leave), and front-desk coordinator Britta Heitkamp (with background in dance pedagogy from institutions including the Limón Institute and Staatstheater Braunschweig). Board members are Laurence Chaperon (former Paris Opera dancer, teaches Floorbarre), Heidi Weiss (dancer and choreographer, regular evening teacher), and Andrew Wass (PhD in Dance, teaches Contact Improvisation and Material for the Spine).
Classes for children and teens run afternoons and early evenings, from age 3 upwards: Creative Dance (ages 3–4), Contemporary for Children (ages 4–12), Hip-Hop (ages 10–13), Urban Contemporary for Teens (ages 13–16), and Inclusive Dance (ages 12+). Professional dancer training targets trained and professional dancers with intensive five-day ballet and contemporary courses during the summer programme, taught by visiting artists.
What to expect
Your first visit
Classes are structured by level (open, beginner, intermediate, advanced, professional). Drop in 10 minutes early for a trial session, or contact the studio to book. The large studio is a converted gymnasium with mirrors and sprung floor; the small studio accommodates pilates and movement work. Office hours are Monday–Friday 10:00–20:00.
