Marylin Youmans School of Dance and Baton has been teaching in Savannah since 1937, making it one of the city's longest-operating dance studios. Founded by Marylin Youmans on East 37th Street, the school has trained professional dancers and countless college feature twirlers over nearly a century.
The studio teaches a broad range of styles: ballet, tap, jazz, pointe, hip hop, baton twirling, tumbling, contemporary, lyrical, and hula. Classes run at the main studio on 25 E 37th Street in Savannah, and the school also operates classes at Port Wentworth Community Center on Appleby Road. Students range from ages 2 to adult, with both group classes and private lessons available.
The weekly schedule includes dance classes on Monday evenings in Port Wentworth (5:30–6:15 pm), and a full roster of classes at the East 37th Street location on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Tuesday offerings include dance classes at 4:30–5:15 pm and 5:45–6:30 pm, plus acrobatics and tumbling from 5:15–5:45 pm. Thursday dance classes run 4:30–5:15 pm. New classes begin each August 11th, with registration available in person at the studio.
The school's teaching philosophy centres on personalized instruction from dedicated and experienced teachers and coaches who use proven teaching strategies to help every student find their path to success. The mission is to encourage students to experience the love of dance, twirling, and performing while building lifelong friendships, confidence, and poise.
